‎‎Salihu Tanko Yakasai has raised strong concerns over what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s clear favoritism towards Lagos State in project approvals and appointments, as reported by Daily Independent on Saturday, 2 August, 2025.

‎The Kano-born politician questioned if Tinubu was governing Nigeria as a whole or acting solely in the interest of Lagos.

‎Yakasai stated that the level of attention and investment going to Lagos is unlike anything ever seen in Nigeria’s political history.

‎According to him, any fair-minded person from Lagos should be able to see the clear bias and speak against it.

‎He explained that several projects worth trillions of naira have been awarded to Lagos within just two years of Tinubu’s presidency.

‎These include massive road projects, airport upgrades, and railway development, among others.

‎He noted that while these projects may have national benefits, the scale and concentration in one state raise serious questions about fairness.

‎Yakasai warned that if this trend continues, it could lead to deeper division in the country.

‎He added that defending such favoritism in the name of politics will only worsen the feeling of exclusion among other regions.

‎He insisted that records must reflect this imbalance so that future generations can judge fairly.

‎He also argued that if similar funds were allocated to other parts of Nigeria, especially the North, they too would become economically vibrant.

‎He called for balanced development that reflects the diversity and unity of the nation.

‎The former PRP governorship candidate said Nigerians should not remain silent.

‎He urged citizens, especially those outside Lagos, to demand fair treatment from the federal government.

‎According to him, leadership should not be about rewarding one region but about serving all Nigerians equally.

‎“I understand ‘Emi Lokan’ but sometimes I wonder if Tinubu is the President of Nigeria or that of Lagos. Any objective Lagosian with a conscience will know that this favoritism is ridiculous at a level we’ve never seen in the country’s history. But if agenda most is favoured, then by all means, continue to defend it, while we continue to speak out so that the records will be there for prosperity sake,” he said.
