Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fired back at Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi over his harsh criticism of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Farotimi had earlier described Wike as the “poster boy of the Nigerian ruining class,” accusing him of representing all that is wrong with the political elite in Nigeria. His comments sparked heated reactions across social media, particularly from supporters of the former Rivers State governor.
Responding via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lere Olayinka strongly criticized Farotimi’s position, suggesting that the lawyer had lost all sense of objective reasoning.
“@DeleFarotimi, you have lost your sense of rational reasoning, you will be supporting, promoting, and defending a man who built no single school throughout his 8 years as governor, but attacking another man who built the law school that many of the law graduates that will be called to bar this week attended,” he wrote.
Though he did not name the “man who built no single school,” observers believe Olayinka was referring to a political figure previously praised by Farotimi—possibly a veiled jab at Peter Obi or another reformist politician often aligned with activist circles.
Olayinka’s defense of Wike highlights the former Rivers governor’s record of infrastructural projects, including the construction of a new campus of the Nigerian Law School in Port Harcourt, which recently admitted its first batch of students.
