In a recent video on YouTube, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, used the occasion of a 70th birthday celebration to reiterate the importance of integrity, accountability, and peace in both personal and public life. Addressing an audience filled with dignitaries, family, and supporters, Wike delivered a speech blending reflection, humor, and strong messages on leadership and character.
He referred to a long-standing personal issue involving a debt, humorously invoking a symbolic “judgment” given by the celebrant’s wife as a reminder for repayment. Wike stated that age should not be an excuse to evade responsibilities, suggesting that integrity should be upheld regardless of one’s stage in life. The light-hearted moment underscored a deeper theme of accountability in personal relationships and public service.
Transitioning to broader societal matters, Wike reaffirmed his stance as a man committed to peace. He emphasized that he and his allies are not people of conflict or chaos but are focused on maintaining stability and unity, particularly in their home state of Rivers. His remarks aimed to dispel misconceptions about his political posture while reinforcing a message of genuine peacemaking.
According to him, “At least your wife is still alive. She gave a judgment: “Pay your uncle his money.” So don’t say, “Oh, at this age, where do I get the money to pay?” No, no. Please. I want to use your 70th birthday to say, “Look, when we get to your house, pay me back the money. When I collect it, I’ll decide what to do with it.” But my dear brothers and sisters, I want to thank all of you for coming. Let me also use this opportunity to let you know that we are men of peace—we are not men of trouble. We are not women of trouble.”
