A Peoples Democratic Party national official has faulted the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for opposing potential collaboration with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing the minister of being “intoxicated with power” after decades in politics.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, made the sharp rebuke during an interview with Arise TV from 19:22, challenging Wike’s influence over party decisions regarding 2027 electoral strategies. “Goodluck Jonathan is suitably qualified for the job. Peter Obi is also qualified. But how would Wike see it? He has taken his 40 years in politics and become intoxicated with power. You are now telling the PDP not to go with Obi, who do you think you are? I think it’s time to call it off,” Abdullahi stated.

The PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary noted that the party’s entire machinery should recognize that the presidency is currently held by someone from the South. He clarified that the party is not mandating that the position must go to a specific part of the South, explaining that the southern region comprises three zones: Southeast, Southwest, and South-South.

The official stated that it is part of the committee’s mandate to narrow down the choice based on political capital and strategic advantage for the PDP moving forward. He emphasized that no final decision has been made and that even northern aspirants can compete if they choose, as the process remains open.

However, he confirmed that the party has resolved to allocate the ticket to the South and is encouraging northern members to support this decision. The Deputy National Publicity Secretary explained that this approach aligns with the founding fathers’ vision of rotating power between the North and South.
