Member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Ejiofor Onyia, has claimed that all former G5 governors have returned to active participation in party activities except FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who continues to oppose the party leadership.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Onyia expressed hope that Wike might eventually reconcile with the party while acknowledging the minister’s current stance. “I believe that it is in the heat of misunderstandings and everything that he (Wike) is doing what he’s doing. But as soon as the party comes back together and everything is working out, I believe he may have a change of mind. But I’m not going to speak for him. He has to speak for himself. But the others who were with him in that G5 are back in the system and they’re now working for the party,” he stated.

The PDP BOT member explained the party’s strategic approach to handling internal conflicts, emphasizing patience over immediate disciplinary action. “It’s never too late in the day to have a reconciliation. And looking at what prompted the disagreement and what some of them have done, if you wielded the big stick from that time, the situation would have been worse. So, it was better that we let things calm down. We allowed people to exhaust themselves,” Onyia said.

He acknowledged that internal party conflicts contributed to the PDP’s electoral defeat while defending the leadership’s measured response. “Unfortunately, we lost the election because of the bickering, but then what next do we do? Do we now destroy the party and start doing unnecessary discipline? We allowed things to calm down because there were too many problems within the party, and we decided to tackle them one after the other quietly without making any noise about it,” he explained.

Onyia claimed the reconciliation strategy has been largely successful in reuniting the party. “So, we have been able to settle most of the problems. The party has come back together. In fact, if you were at the next meeting today, there are quite a lot of people that were not expected to attend, and they were there and showing interest,” he revealed.
