According to Dailypost, Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, has openly criticized Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, accusing him of betrayal and a lack of integrity. Wike recalled a time when Diri, in a bid for political support, humbled himself before him by even kneeling down, only to now exclude him and his allies from key political gatherings.

Expressing his displeasure, Wike condemned Diri’s decision to organize a South-South political leaders’ meeting without extending invitations to him, members of the National Assembly, or other political figures aligned with his camp. He suggested that Diri had aligned himself with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in a move against him and his supporters.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike addressed the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State and the shifting dynamics between himself and Governor Fubara. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), making it clear that he had no intention of leaving the party despite internal conflicts.

Reflecting on past events, Wike emphasized the importance of character in politics. He recounted how Diri had once sought his backing through the intervention of Petroleum Minister, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri. According to Wike, both Diri and David Lyon had approached him through Lokpobiri, with Diri even resorting to kneeling in a show of desperation. Wike claimed he had urged Diri to maintain his dignity as a governor, yet now, the same man had the audacity to host a regional political meeting while deliberately sidelining key stakeholders.

Expressing his frustration, Wike questioned the motives behind Diri’s political maneuvers, describing them as divisive and counterproductive. He condemned the exclusion of federal ministers, zonal party officials, senators, and National Assembly members from the meeting, calling it a troubling trend in the region’s politics.
