A prominent PDP lawmaker has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of potentially committing an impeachable offense regarding the upcoming budget presentation.
Speaking in a recent interview appearance on Symfoni TV FROM 3:41, Hon. Imo Ikenga Ugochinyere raised constitutional concerns about the minister’s planned budget presentation procedures. The lawmaker emphasized that presenting a budget to the 27 lawmakers who have lost their legislative status would violate constitutional principles.
“He is not going to present it before people who are not lawmakers; that would be an impeachable offense to go and present a budget before those whose seats have been declared vacant by the Constitution,” Ugochinyere stated.
The PDP representative further explained that lawmakers who defect from their original political parties automatically forfeit their positions. “Those who have left their political party upon which they were elected automatically cease to be lawmakers,” he said.
In a sharp rebuke of the minister’s alleged plans, Ugochinyere questioned the legitimacy of potential private budget presentations: “Should the governor go and present a budget to them in their two-bedroom apartment, hiding in the city, and say, ‘This is my 2025 budget?'”
The lawmaker concluded his criticism by suggesting that such actions would undermine established governance protocols, stating, “You want to change our constitution and governance because one man is desperate to lay his hand on what does not belong to him.”
