According to a report from Vanguard Newspaper on Thursday, May 29, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a significant statement regarding the recent appellate court ruling on the Edo State governorship election. This judgment upheld the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo, a decision that Wike believes should be respected by all parties involved, particularly Asuerime Ighodalo, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike expressed his hope that Ighodalo would accept the court’s decision in the interest of peace and unity within Edo State. “It is crucial for the future of our state that we come together and support the rightful leadership,” Wike stated. He emphasized, “Accepting the judgment is not just about personal pride; it’s about the collective progress of Edo State.”
Wike congratulated Governor Okpebholo on the affirmation of his victory, urging him to remain dedicated to good governance. “Governor Okpebholo has a mandate that reflects the will of the people,” he remarked. “I am confident that he will continue to work tirelessly to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizens.”
Further, Wike expressed his belief in Okpebholo’s capacity to bring about positive change. “Since assuming office, I have observed his commitment to improving the lives of the people of Edo State. His leadership has the potential to transform our state,” Wike noted. He reiterated that the appellate court’s ruling is a confirmation of the genuine support Okpebholo received during the election.
