In a recent interview on News Central TV from 12:14, political analyst Jide Ojo raised concerns over the conduct of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Ojo accused Wike of openly aligning with the All Progressives Congress while still claiming membership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
“Nyesom Wike is openly working for APC and he said he will not leave PDP,” Ojo stated during the interview. “He has even secured a court injunction to say that he should not be suspended or sacked from the party, but he is obviously doing anti-party. So how do you tell that kind of individual who openly is doing anti-party but also got a court order on his side to say he should not be suspended or sacked?”
Ojo’s remarks reflect growing frustration among political observers and PDP loyalists, many of whom have accused Wike of undermining the party’s unity and electoral prospects. Wike has maintained a defiant stance, insisting on his right to remain in the PDP despite collaborating with the ruling APC at the federal level.
The court injunction reportedly obtained by Wike prevents the PDP from taking disciplinary action against him, effectively shielding him from suspension or expulsion. This legal cover has sparked debate over the balance between judicial protection and party discipline in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Wike’s dual allegiance continues to raise ethical and constitutional questions. While he has defended his actions as being in the national interest, critics argue that such conduct undermines democratic norms and party loyalty.
As political tensions build ahead of upcoming elections, Wike’s controversial position is expected to remain a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over party integrity and political accountability in Nigeria.
