Bode George, a notable chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has addressed critical issues concerning the party’s internal discipline and transparency. George emphasized that any actions related to party discipline or decision-making must involve the National Executive Committee (NEC) to ensure that the process is both open and accountable. He firmly stated that no individual should be considered above the party, reinforcing that the party’s collective integrity must be maintained.
He criticized the practice of trying to conceal mistakes within the party, asserting that such actions are unacceptable. He highlighted that the party’s recent attempts to cover up errors do not align with the principles of transparency and accountability that are essential for effective governance and trust within the organization. According to George, it is crucial to address mistakes openly and to handle disciplinary matters transparently, rather than attempting to hide or gloss over issues.
He said in an interview with Arise TV from 18:44, “There is a problem. No rushing. I am not telling them whether they invite A or B or C—that’s not my business. Whatever they need, they should call a meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party because he himself is still a member of the NEC, and you cannot discipline a member of NEC just off the records.
No, let’s do it transparently so everybody will see it, and it is not—I like what the publicity secretary said that nobody—nobody is bigger than the party. And it is not the private enterprise of any individual. No, there are mistakes that have been made. We are now trying to cover it, and what we did was not acceptable to me.”….Vïew–Morê
