Former Governor of Osun State and ex-PDP National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has raised concerns over the refusal of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to align with the All Progressives Congress even as many political actors across the country are defecting to the ruling party.
Speaking in an interview on Arise TV from 17:10, Oyinlola expressed bewilderment that while politicians from various regions are decamping to the APC, Adeleke, governor of President Bola Tinubu’s home state is resisting the political wave.
“We have been told, if you look at that communique,” Oyinlola said, referencing recent discussions within political circles. “It was point blank, why should everybody be rolling over to APC and the governor of home state of Mr President is refusing?.”
His remarks come amid growing pressure on key opposition figures to join the ruling party, a trend that has sparked debate about Nigeria’s political stability and the strength of the opposition. Oyinlola’s statement is being interpreted by some as a subtle nudge or even a public warning to Adeleke, who has remained firm in his affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party.
Observers note that Adeleke’s refusal could be seen as a principled stand against political opportunism, or a strategic move to maintain the PDP’s stronghold in Osun State. Meanwhile, the APC continues to consolidate power nationally, attracting defectors with promises of inclusion and influence.
Oyinlola’s comments have reignited discussion about the future of opposition politics in Nigeria and the implications of near-universal alignment with the ruling party, especially in a state as symbolically significant as the president’s own.
