Annastasia Kinse, a native of Plateau State who became the first reverend sister from her village, during an interview with The Punch correspondent, shared narrates her ordeal after she served in the convent for about a decade, before her dismissal from the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters.

Speaking about her dismissal, Kinse explained that in July 2025, her congregation released a clarification and disclaimer letter on social media, stating that a dismissal notice had been issued on July 21. She said she did not officially receive the letter until September 24, by which time rumours about her status were already spreading.

She added that the situation became worse after a letter written by a priest of the Auchi Diocese, Rev. Fr. Solomon Andrew Olumekhor, circulated online. To clear the air, she said she made a Facebook post to present her side of the story.

According to her, the letter falsely claimed that she had broken her vows and identified as a Muslim. She maintained that the real issue began after she reported a case of harassment at Veritas University, where she was serving as a Graduate Assistant while pursuing her master’s degree.

When she was told during the interview that she made a post about identifying as a Muslim, she said, “Yes, that post caused a lot of misunderstanding. On July 12, I wrote on Facebook that I had converted to Islam. That post was not a conversion; it was made in a moment of frustration and despair. My aunt died as a Muslim, and her name, Salamatu, came to mind when I made that post. The picture used was from 2023.”

Kinse said that at that point, she felt completely abandoned by the Church system she had devoted her life to. She expressed anger that those expected to protect victims seemed more concerned with shielding perpetrators. According to her, her reaction was an emotional outburst — a cry of pain rather than a rejection of her faith. See, More, Here>>>
