According to a report published by The Cable on August 9, 2025, former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that during his time in the All Progressives Congress (APC), he consistently rejected invitations to join the party’s election planning committees.
Speaking during a discussion on X Spaces, Amaechi claimed that electoral malpractices in Nigeria often involve state governors and the diversion of public funds through government agencies. He alleged that such activities are typically planned behind closed doors within party structures, and his refusal to take part was a stand against such practices.
“In fact, all the appointments given to me by APC to join election planning committees, I have refused to participate. There was no one I participated in. Why? Because I know what they discuss. I listen to them. I hear them. If I get the ticket, I will reveal those things,” he said.
Amaechi emphasised that his political career has been built on transparency and fairness, insisting that he has never been involved in election rigging. He challenged any politician or citizen to provide evidence to the contrary, pledging to publicly apologise if proven wrong.
He also reiterated his commitment to ending electoral malpractice if given the opportunity to lead, adding that reforms to restore credibility in Nigeria’s voting process would be a top priority in his administration.
The former Rivers State governor has declared interest in running for president under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2027. He previously stated that if elected, he would serve only one term in line with Nigeria’s informal rotational power-sharing arrangement.
With his latest revelations, political observers say Amaechi is positioning himself as a candidate focused on electoral reform, a stance that could influence public perception ahead of the ADC’s primary elections.
