A Nigerian woman, Helen Loveth, who falsely testified at Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Zion Ministry about purchasing a N500 million mansion, has explained why she lied.
Loveth had claimed during a church service that divine intervention enabled her to buy a luxurious five-bedroom house. However, her testimony sparked controversy after she was later spotted selling drinks in Enugu. A viral video showed people confronting her, questioning the authenticity of her claims.
Amid the backlash, Prophet Ebuka Obi publicly distanced himself from Loveth, stating that he had no prior knowledge of her or her testimony. The situation took a more serious turn when she was arrested by the police for questioning.
Speaking after her arrest in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) Loveth admitted that she did not own the mansion and was not in a financial position to buy it. She explained that her testimony was an act of faith, as she was still in the process of negotiating the purchase.
“I did not build the house. We’re in the process of buying it. I have checked it, and the agent said we should go and meet the landlord. It is not mine yet. I don’t own any house,” she confessed.
Loveth further stated that she had planned to pay for the property in installments, but she had not yet completed any payments. When asked to provide the house’s address or proof of ownership, she was unable to do so.
Her confession has ignited widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment over her actions. Some critics argue that such false testimonies undermine the credibility of religious institutions and mislead worshippers.
