A former presidential candidate has blamed leaders from Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states for failing to invite US Congressional delegates to investigate killings in their regions, unlike their counterparts in Plateau and Benue states who actively engaged with American fact-finding missions.
Adamu Garba said this during an interview with Daily Trust from 4:37, defending the scope of US Congressional investigations in Nigeria. “The U.S. delegation from the US Congress came to Nigeria three times to investigate and make findings. They were in many places in Plateau and Benue. Although I saw some people are saying that they didn’t go to Zamfara, but the people that invited them were the people of Benue and Plateau. Why didn’t the Zamfara people and the Sokoto people and the Katsina people also go and invite the US delegates to their states? They didn’t do that. So they came on a fact-finding mission,” he stated.
The former APC presidential candidate also identified Nigeria’s lack of diplomatic representation in Washington as a critical vulnerability that has complicated the country’s response to American pressure. “You don’t have a political representation in that country. You don’t have any intelligence to understand that this is actually what is likely going to happen,” Garba explained.
Garba characterized Nigeria’s approach to American concerns as reactive rather than strategic, arguing that the absence of an ambassador has left the country without early warning systems to anticipate policy developments.
He noted that Nigeria has already been designated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the United States before the Nigeria state denial, a classification he claimed could have been prevented through proactive diplomatic engagement. View, More,
