In a recent video on Facebook, Fr. Chinenye Oluoma provided valuable insights into the interpretation of biblical commands and the role of personal discretion in religious practices. Emphasizing the distinction between clear divine commands and areas where individual judgment is permitted, Fr. Oluoma highlighted the importance of understanding these nuances for faithful adherence to Christian teachings.
To illustrate his point, Fr. Oluoma referenced 1 Corinthians 7, where the Apostle Paul discusses marriage and vírginity. “When Paul was talking about marriage and vírginity, he said left alone for him, he prefers not to marry,” Fr. Oluoma explained. This passage, he noted, exemplifies a matter where personal preference and discretion play a role.
According to him, “There are command of the Lord that are clear in the Bible. There are things you must use your discretion. Meaning that there is no absolute way about it. But there are things that are not at your discretion. They are the command of the Lord. And they are very clear. In 1 Corinthians 7, when Paul was talking about marriage and virginity, he said left alone for him, he prefers not to marry. So if Catholic priest prefers not not marry, I don’t see it as a problem.”….Seë_Morë
