The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has raised doubts about the political future of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as reported by The Guardian on Wednesday, 3 September, 2025.
He challenged Obi’s silence on which party he intends to use as a platform for the contest.
Wike said Nigerians deserve clarity, he asked how Obi plans to mobilize the millions of votes he received in 2023 without telling his supporters his political base.
According to Wike, politics is about structure and identity, and voters must know the party behind any candidate.
The minister compared Obi’s position with other politicians who have already declared their intentions.
He pointed out that Atiku Abubakar has announced his ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has also indicated interest through the same platform.
Wike wondered why Obi has not done the same, he questioned whether Obi would wait until December before making his choice known.
This forgotten recipe cleanses the veins at an impressive speed!
He argued that leaving supporters in suspense creates uncertainty and weakens their confidence.
For Wike, it is not enough to enjoy popularity on social media.
A serious contender must show the political structure that will carry his ambition.
Wike asked why Obi continues to keep his supporters guessing.
He suggested that such indecision could make it difficult for Obi to repeat his performance in 2023.
“Where will he get the six million votes? Under the PDP or Labour Party? If you are running, people should know for which party you are running. They should know the platform. Is it by December that he will mention it? Atiku has said he will run in the ADC, Amaechi said ADC, but he (Obi) has not said where he will run.
Why are you keeping your supporters guessing?” Wike asked.
