Former Senator Shehu Sani has criticized ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai over his role in the ongoing political tension in Kaduna State. Speaking during an interview with Arise Television from 6.27, Sani questioned why a man of El-Rufai’s age and achievements would still be acting like an active street campaigner instead of focusing on guiding younger leaders.
According to him, El-Rufai is 65 years old and has already held several high positions in government. He was once the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) for four years, a minister for another four years, and later served as governor of Kaduna State for eight years. Sani explained that anyone who has reached such a stage in life should be grateful, retire peacefully, and support those they helped to power instead of seeking attention.
He mocked El-Rufai’s recent political activities, describing them as unbefitting of a man of his age. “When you see a man of 65, at that age, who has achieved all the things he wants to achieve in life, still on top of a bus, sweating, passing through a market raising a flag, then you know that something is wrong with such a person,” Sani said.
The former senator advised that instead of quarrelling with younger politicians, many in their 40s and 50s, El-Rufai should choose the path of rest, reflection, and prayer. According to him, political leaders should know when to step aside and allow the next generation to take charge.
