Clement Oloyede, a political analyst, has expressed concerns over the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s decision to appoint Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its new national chairman. In a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is heating up ahead of the 2027 elections and opposition alliances are becoming stronger, Oloyede argued that the APC’s choice reflects poor political strategy. He noted that party leadership at this stage requires not just internal loyalty but public recognition and national political clout—qualities he believes Yilwatda does not yet possess.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Oloyede emphasized that the APC appears to be heading into a major political contest with someone many Nigerians don’t know. He contrasted this with the new opposition coalition, which appointed a figure like David Mark—a former Senate President with decades of political experience and wide national appeal. Oloyede questioned how the ruling party intends to match such a figure with someone largely seen as a newcomer on the national scene.
According to him, “People were asking why the APC decided to go with someone that you could describe as a newbie in the political space when you’re confronting a very strong coalition. People are asking questions. Anywhere you mention the name of David Mark, who is the interim national chairman of the ADC, the new coalition, almost everyone knows that this is a former senate president, but when you mention the name of Professor Nentawe, people will say, Who’s he?
