FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has defended his affluent lifestyle by revealing his privileged upbringing and family wealth, pushing back against former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s suggestions about questionable asset accumulation.

Wike speaking in an interview with Channels TV emphasized his well-established family background in Rivers State, rejecting characterizations of humble origins. “He talked about houses. I’m not a bush man. No, I’m not. I’m from Obio Akpor local government, part of former Port Harcourt local government. I was well brought up, and I have a family background. In fact, when you go to Ikwerre road, my father was one of the few people who have duplexes there in Ikwerre road. So, you cannot say that I was poor; not too rich, I agree. But you cannot say that I was at a poor level.”

The FCT Minister confirmed ownership of a Rolls-Royce, asserting he purchased the luxury vehicle with personal funds. He described his affluent student life, noting he drove a Mercedes Benz while in school and highlighting his father’s corporate executive positions.

Wike revealed his father served as general manager of multiple companies, providing the financial foundation for the family’s comfortable lifestyle.

The minister countered Amaechi’s claims about how he got his Rolls-Royce’s, alleging the former governor had actually received a similar vehicle from Senator John Mbata through questionable arrangements.

Wike detailed what he described as a corrupt transportation contract involving Senator Mbata during Amaechi’s gubernatorial tenure. He alleged that Sen. Mbata secured an exclusive deal to supply all vehicles for Rivers State’s private transportation system—a contract that ultimately remained unfulfilled.
