Legendary Nigerian actor and film producer, Professor Sola Fosudo, has reflected on his dual career in the creative arts and academia, citing the inspiration of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka during his time at the University of Ife.
In a video that was posted on the official YouTube channel of Oyinmomo TV during an interview, Prof. Fosudo was asked how he balanced acting and lecturing, and whether he was allowed to attend filming locations while still fulfilling his academic duties. “It was a privilege and added advantage to the school and students,” he said.
“When I was interviewed, the question popped up if I would be available to teach the students. I said the performance out there is an advantage to our students because we have the chance to go into detail about what we are doing and they are also happy that you are their lecturer.”
He drew a powerful comparison to his university days. “It’s like when I was in Ife when Prof Wole Soyinka was our lecturer, we were happy that our lecturer was a well-known personality.”
Professor Fosudo explained that the public recognition of a lecturer can serve as a source of pride and inspiration for students. “And today, our students are also proud of our names.”
