Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dan Ulasi, has shared his view on the internal crisis tearing the PDP apart. Speaking during an interview with AIT News from 6:26, Ulasi traced the root of the party’s division to the 2023 PDP convention, where the choice of presidential candidate created deep cracks among members.
He explained that during the convention, all the presidential aspirants had spoken to the delegates who were to vote. However, things took a dramatic turn when the then-governor of Rivers State, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, arrived at Eagle Square, Abuja, the venue of the event. Ulasi described the moment as chaotic, saying that the crowd went wild with excitement, and it almost felt like a civil war was breaking out.
“When a governor who was also running came in, the then-governor of Rivers State who is now the fct minister drove into eagle square, the whole crowd erupted. You’d think that there was a civil war going on,” he said.
According to him, after Wike’s arrival, the then-governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, along with Atiku Abubakar and two others, went into a private meeting. When they returned, Tambuwal announced that he was stepping down from the race and asked other northern aspirants to support Atiku. Ulasi said this single action marked the beginning of the crisis within the PDP.
He added that Wike and his supporters felt betrayed and immediately pulled away from the main group. Ulasi revealed that he was later sent to Port Harcourt to meet Wike for discussions, but since then, the PDP has never fully recovered from that division. View, More,
