The Former Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Doyin Okupe, has noted that when they found out that MKO Abiola was planning to join politics, Tom Ikimi, the Chairman of the defunct NRC, and himself went to his house, trying to convince him to join NRC.
Speaking further, he noted that Abiola politely declined, noting that he (MKO) also asked him to see him later. He went on and noted that they were not friends before then but he had great respect for his family because of the relationship he had with his late brothers, Taiwo, kehinde and Idowu while they were students in United Kingdom.
Mr Doyin Okupe made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle on Sunday afternoon. Okupe went on and made it known that when he visited MKO privately, he appologised and explained to him why he could not join the NRC.
He further disclosed that the day he was planning to meet the former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, he (MKO) informed him and also promised to give him the reports of his meeting. He further noted that at 4am the next day, MKO knocked at his hotel room and gave him the details of the meeting, informing him that he will thereafter declare his presidential ambition.
Some parts of his post read: “When we learnt that MKO was going into politics, Tom Ikimi, (chairman of defunct NRC) and I went to him at home. We tried to convince him to join NRC to pursue his obvious political ambition. He politely declined, but asked me to see him later.”………Sēe _ Morē
