A former Lawmaker representing the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Umar Barde, has recalled how they urged the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to visit Baptist College after the students of the school were kidnapped.

During an interview with Arise TV from 8:16, he revealed that despite their pleas for him to sympathize with the affected parents, no action was taken.

He said the kidnapped students endured months, and almost spent years in captivity, before they were eventually released.

He highlighted the recent abduction of pupils from Kuriga Primary School, where the current governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, intervened.

He said as a result of the intervention, all the abducted students were rescued, except for one teacher who was killed. He noted that the Kuriga school has since been fenced, renovated, and reopened, with students returning to continue their education.

He said, “When the students of Baptist College were kidnapped, we pleaded with Mallam El-Rufai to even visit the school, to sympathize with the parents, nothing was done. These people spent months and even nearly years. Today, thank God they’ve returned. The children of Kuriga Primary School were kidnapped, Senator Uba Sani stepped in, all of them returned except one of their teachers that was killed, who was not very well. Today, if you go to that school, Kuriga, it has been fenced, the school is renovated, and students are back to that school.”
