Martins Idakpini, a lance corporal in the Nigerian Army, has stated that he was detained for three years because of a viral video he made. In the video, he had accused army leaders of poorly managing the fight against insurgency and called for better treatment of soldiers.

In an interview with Lucky Udu Experience from 17:16, Idakpini said he risked his life for the nation but felt abandoned when he was arrested. He said he had expected many Nigerians to support him so that the issues he raised would be addressed, but he was disappointed that people reacted along political, tribal, and religious lines.
