In a video published by Symfoni TV, during Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 55th birthday celebration, a senator representing Edo North Adams Oshiomhole, recounted his reaction to the landslide victory of the APC in the recent bye-elections.

He explained that when he saw the margin of 105,000 votes against 15,000, he jokingly told Jarret that their aim was to defeat the opposition, not to completely kill them.

Oshiomhole described the by-election as a referendum on the governor’s performance, noting that the result reflected a strong verdict of confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership.

He emphasized that winning by such a wide gap went beyond ordinary defeat and showed the people’s overwhelming approval.

He further highlighted similar results in Ogbia, which he described as one of the most complex local governments in terms of dialects, where APC recorded about 77,000 votes against 3,000.

According to him, these outcomes proved that across the state, the people had affirmed their trust and confidence in the governor’s stewardship, with prospects of even better results in the future.

In Oshiomhole’s words, “You know, by-elections are mini-vetted. It’s like the referendum, or someone’s performance.”

“In nine months, Edo people conducted the referendum in Edo Central, the whole of Edo Central, which has been the most difficult part of Edo State, as far as APC is concerned.”

“And when I saw the result of 105,000 against 15,000, I called Jarret. I said, Jarret, we only wanted to defeat these guys. We didn’t say you should kill them. Because this is no longer just about defeat now. 15,000 over 105,000. That is a remarkable verdict on your stewardship.
