Former Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, has spoken about his first encounter with then-President Muhammadu Buhari after his appointment as IGP.
In a video shared by ESET TV from 5:07, Baba said the Minister of Police Affairs took him to see Buhari in his office. He said Buhari congratulated him and encouraged him to do his best to improve the country’s security situation. He said Buhari told him about the many challenges Nigeria was facing at the time.
According to Baba, Buhari listed different security issues, starting with the activities of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network. He said Buhari also mentioned the problems of Boko Haram, kidnappings, and other criminal activities across the country.
Baba said Buhari advised him to build a strong team and work with people who could help him succeed. He also said Buhari promised to give support based on the police force’s needs.
In Baba’s words: “He started mentioning the issue of IPOB and ESN even before mentioning the issue of Boko Haram, kidnapping and other issues. He said go and work to the best of your knowledge and ability and get a team that will support you. We will see how we can assist you based on your needs and other things that we need to do’. And I told him thank you very much sir”
