President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election he was invited by Dele Cole to speak at a conference center in Abuja.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels TV from 1:20, Tinubu said he confronted then-Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, about his refusal to declare MKO Abiola as the rightful winner of the election. He said many expected that his bold statement to Babangida would land him in jail. However, he mentioned that after the event, Babangida unexpectedly approached him and shook his hand. He recalled that moment as something he could never forget.

In Tinubu’s words: “When I was summoned by Dele Cole to make a remark, I confronted you that you had an opportunity to make a history that day and you failed to do it, why not inaugurate us? Why are you calling us back and postponing the inauguration day? They thought I will end up in jail but you came out at the end of the remark and shook me. I can’t forget that (sic).
