According to a report by DAILY POST on Sunday November 23, 2025, former senator Shehu Sani has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police officers assigned to prominent individuals, describing the decision as a welcome step but one that may not translate into real change.

Sani, in a post on X, noted that the move aligns with the country’s urgent security needs but may struggle to go beyond an official announcement.

He wrote on his X handle: “Withdrawal of Police from VIPs is a good idea and good policy statement in view of the nation’s urgent security needs, but it will only begin and end up as a statement.”

President Tinubu had directed that police officers currently serving as personal security for VIPs be reassigned to regular policing duties to strengthen security across the nation.

The presidency explained that the measure is intended to refocus police personnel on their core responsibility of protecting the public.

Under the new policy, individuals requiring armed escorts will now be expected to obtain security from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps instead.

The president also approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers to improve security presence, especially in remote communities that have long suffered from personnel shortages. View, More,
