Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed shock and anger over the disturbing report involving two Air Peace pilots. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) recently confirmed that both the pilot and co-pilot tested positive for hard drugs and alcohol after their aircraft ran off the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport on July 13, 2025.

The NSIB preliminary report, signed by its spokesperson, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, revealed that the crew members were under the influence of substances before the flight. This discovery has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the level of discipline among flight operators.

Reacting via his X account (formerly Twitter), Shehu Sani questioned why a pilot would take drugs before flying, wondering what they hoped to achieve while in the air. Deeply worried about the safety of passengers and the reputation of the country’s aviation sector, the former senator called on the Management of Airpeace to take strong action.

In his words, “What on Earth would make a Pilot smoke Indian hemp before take off….what does he want to see in the Sky? Airpeace must take strong action.”
