Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has voiced strong concerns about the current state of governance in Nigeria, describing it as a one-man dictatorship rather than a democratic system.

She made these remarks during an interview with NEWS CENTRAL TV from 1:18, where she expressed frustration over the way political appointments are being handled.

Bucknor-Akerele stated that many of the individuals currently occupying key positions were not elected by the people but were instead handpicked without public input. She argued that this method of selection undermines democratic principles and places unqualified individuals in positions of power. According to her, the process lacks transparency and accountability.

She further criticized the conduct of the last general elections, citing incidents of ballot box snatching and destruction as evidence of electoral malpractice. Bucknor-Akerele emphasized that such actions erode public trust and damage the credibility of the electoral system. She warned that if these trends continue, the country risks sliding deeper into authoritarian rule.

According to her,

“What is going on now is not governance it’s the dictatorship of one man who picks people as he pleases and most of those people are not competent. Because as far as I know, the people are not electing them. These people are being imposed by all sort of means. In the last election we saw people snatching and burning ballot boxes.” View, More,
