During a TVC News broadcast, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, has spoken after the 48-hour deadline given to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, has expired.

Obio/Akpor Constituency 2 representative, Emilia Amadi, asked for composure and understanding. She pleaded that the governor be given another opportunity to present the state budget after the initial 48-hour deadline had expired.

She said, “I want to plead as a mother; we will give them a second chance for the benefit of doubt.”

But Martins Amaewhule, the Speaker of the House, said that the chairmen and commissioners of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission have been given a new date by the Assembly, which is March 10, 2025, at 10 a.m., to come before the Assembly and answer questions about their actions while in office.

Additionally, he stated that the House had decided to take appropriate action in response to Governor Fubara’s disregard for the 1999 constitution’s provisions, particularly section 192.

In his words, “They are now given a new date, which is the 10th day of March 2025 at 10 am to appear before this Assembly to answer questions pertaining to their conduct in office as chairmen and commissioners of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.”

“Members have also resolved that we would take appropriate action as our response to the governor’s refusal to abide by the provisions of the 1999 constitution, most specifically section 192.”
