In a recent video on TVC from 52 seconds, Ugochinyere Ikenga, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, has proposed significant reforms aimed at fostering political stability and ensuring equitable power distribution across Nigeria. Speaking on behalf of a group of lawmakers, Ikenga advocated for a single-term presidency of six years, coupled with a mandatory power rotation between the northern and southern regions of the country.
The proposal also includes a call for synchronizing all major elections—presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly—on a single day. This, according to Ikenga, would streamline the electoral process, reduce costs, and minimize the chances of electoral violence and manipulation.
Ikenga and his co-sponsors believe that these reforms will not only stabilize Nigeria’s political state but also promote national integration by ensuring that all regions of the country have a fair opportunity to lead.
According to him, “We strongly believe that a stable political atmosphere will help our country to grow forward, and that’s why we have a proposal for a single-term presidency of six years and for power rotation between North and South, and for all elections in the country to hold on a single day.”….Seê – Morê
