According to a report reaching us from Punch, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), a Niger Delta chieftain and the chairman of a private pipeline surveillance company contracted by the Federal Government, has urged resentful Ijaws not to reply to Nyesom Wike’s recent remarks, which many consider demeaning to the Ijaw nation.
He gave everyone his word that Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, would resume his position. Tompolo voiced his worry, claiming that some people had accused him of betraying the Ijaw nation by keeping quiet about Fubara’s suspension.
However, he emphasized his lifelong commitment to the Ijaw cause, stating that he has fought for the Ijaw nation his entire life and that he cannot betray them.
Tompolo acknowledged his enduring relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and pointed out that the Ijaw people played a significant role in Wike’s ascent to the position of governor of Rivers State.
He disclosed that negotiations are in progress to reconcile the disagreements between Sim Fubara and Wike.
He asserted that the Ijaws would never be subdued and that the heavens would join them in battle if they so desired. “I have never fought a battle and lost,” he added.
He reaffirmed his dedication to harmony and peace by saying, “Because I have not spoken, they say I have betrayed the Ijaw nation, but I cannot betray the Ijaw nation.”
“I have spent all my life fighting for Ijaw. But we have passed the stage of responding to Wike’s kind of statement. We are no longer at that level.”
“And just like I will not accept rebellion from my son, I will also not cause more problems. Wike is angry, but he has to bring his temper down for the good of all. We will dialogue and resolve all lingering issues, and again Fubara will return to his seat.”
