Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has condemned the extravagant lifestyle of Nigerian politicians while basic education infrastructure remains in shambles.
Speaking during an interview with SYMFONI TV where he donated computers to Chibok girls, Obi decried the disconnect between political spending and the suffering of ordinary Nigerians, especially students.
“People don’t know how I feel. We live in a country where we the politicians spend billions traveling all over the world, partying, renovating houses with billions,” Obi stated. He expressed dismay over the recent N39 billion renovation of the national conference centre, contrasting it with the dire state of public schools. “Our children in school don’t have light, they don’t have computers, their classrooms are leaking, they don’t have water,” he added.
Obi, known for his advocacy for fiscal responsibility and investment in human capital, emphasized that the failure to prioritize education is a betrayal of the country’s future. His comments reflect growing public frustration over misallocation of national resources and the widening gap between the political elite and the populace.
Education experts have long warned that Nigeria’s underfunded schools hinder development and fuel inequality. Many public schools lack basic facilities, teachers are poorly paid and students are often forced to learn in substandard environments.

Obi’s remarks have reignited debate over budgetary choices and accountability in governance. As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges and youth unemployment, his message is a call to action for leaders to focus on sustainable development rather than personal luxury.
The SYMFONI TV interview has since sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many Nigerians echoing Obi’s sentiments and demanding more responsible leadership.
