The Ijaw Youth Council has called for the immediate removal of the Sole Administrator, Ibas, and the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whom they say was unconstitutionally displaced from his position.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, IYC President, Sir Theophilus Alaye condemned what he described as a “civilian coup” and insisted that the people of Rivers State never gave a mandate to Ibas. He accused the administrator of hijacking power and misusing state resources to mobilize support for his continued stay in office.

“You removed an elected governor, an executive governor of a state and the people are telling you that, look, we are not under military regime. Remove this man and bring back our governor that we gave the mandate to manage our affairs for 4 years,” Alaye stated.

Alaye further alleged that Ibas who is not from Rivers State is using funds belonging to the people of the state to stage counter-protests and shore up legitimacy.

“And the alien that is not even from Rivers State is now mobilizing people with Rivers people’s funds. That they should go to the street and tell the world that he should remain in office till 2027,” he added.

The IYC president warned that the continued stay of Ibas could fuel more unrest and deepen political instability in the state. He reiterated the IYC’s stand with Governor Fubara, urging the federal government and democratic institutions to restore the people’s mandate.
