In a fiery address captured in a recent Symfoni TV video from 1:44, Balarabe Rufai, the National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made it unmistakably clear that the party’s focus is not on personalities or political godfathers, but on reforming the system from the ground up.
“We’re not interested in who is going to be the presidential candidate of ADC,” Rufai stated boldly, in a pointed remark interpreted as a direct message to political heavyweights such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.
According to Rufai, the ADC is not a political shelter for failed leaders or a platform for recycled politicians to hijack. Instead, he emphasized that the party’s mission is to sanitize internal politics, eliminate money-driven primaries, and create a fair, service-oriented political structure, especially for Nigerian youth.
“If you think you have your godfather that would impose you on people during primaries, you have to reset your mind,” Rufai said, stressing that the era of imposition and corruption is over within the ADC.
He also warned against the ongoing trend of turning delegates into commodities. “We are going to make delegates valueless,” he declared, adding that any leader or aspirant who enters the party with the intent to buy influence or positions will meet resistance.
Rufai took the opportunity to highlight ADC’s structural reforms, particularly its 40% inclusion policy for youth in both elected and appointed positions. “Politics will no longer be about business; it will be about service,” he affirmed.
The message to political figures eyeing ADC as a platform for 2027 was crystal clear: the ADC is not up for political colonization. With a strong emphasis on integrity, inclusion, and grassroots accountability, Rufai and the youth wing are charting a new path—one that leaves no room for traditional political maneuvering.
