The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has declared the federal government’s renewed drive to unlock Nigeria’s full agricultural potential.
In a detailed post on Saturday, July 5, 2025, via X, Bayo Onanuga shared key highlights from President Bola Tinubu’s bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva at the Copacabana Forte.
According to him, President Tinubu made it clear that Nigeria is done with delays and excuses. The President emphasized that all bureaucratic obstacles stalling food and livestock production would be dismantled.
The goal, Onanuga said, is to achieve food sovereignty and position Nigeria as a net exporter of agricultural products.
Tinubu acknowledged Brazil’s success in agriculture and research and noted that Nigeria would tap into similar models to drive transformation across poultry, cattle, fisheries, and the blue economy.
The meeting also had in attendance top Nigerian officials including the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari; the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; and governors from Benue, Ogun, Niger, Delta, and Lagos States.
The President stated that states must now take a frontline role in supporting the federal push to make agriculture a major employment and revenue generator.
On his part, President Lula pledged swift updates to pending agreements and promised Brazil’s support in research, livestock health, and technical cooperation.
Onanuga stressed that this renewed energy signals a turning point for Nigeria’s food system.
