The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Iwuanyanwu, has expressed strong support for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television from 2:22, Iwuanyanwu criticized the Federal Government for detaining Kanu for over five years without clearly stating the crime he committed. He argued that there is no credible evidence linking Kanu to any violent act or crime that justifies such prolonged detention.
According to Iwuanyanwu, his position on the matter has remained consistent since former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration allegedly abducted Kanu from Kenya.
He emphasized that Kanu neither killed anyone nor carried arms, insisting that his continued imprisonment is unjustified. He added that many Nigerians support protests demanding Kanu’s release because they see his trial as politically motivated rather than based on legitimate legal grounds.
The ZLP chairman further expressed deep distrust in the judicial process surrounding Kanu’s case, claiming that the entire proceeding appears biased and influenced by external interests.
He stated that he would not be persuaded by any court ruling, regardless of the outcome, because there seems to be a deliberate effort to suppress Kanu and silence his movement.
Iwuanyanwu also condemned what he described as the government’s selective justice, noting that numerous individuals involved in heinous crimes such as murder, kidnapping, and terrorism continue to walk free.
He accused the authorities of turning a blind eye to these offenders while focusing their energy on persecuting Kanu.
He went on to allege that certain groups are aiding terrorists by supplying them with food and ammunition, and that elements within the Nigerian military are aware of this but fail to act.
“We are aware of helicopters dropping food and ammunition in the bush, which, of course, our security had the capacity to trap. Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu, who has done none of these things, remains in detention. What exactly is his offense?” he stated.
Iwuanyanwu concluded by calling for fairness and transparency in Kanu’s case, urging the Federal Government to either present concrete evidence or release him immediately. See, More, Here>>>
