According to a report by Sky News, on October 10, 2025, President Donald Trump has credited a US military attack on Iran as instrumental in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas today.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Trump outlined how “everything came together” for the deal to materialize, emphasizing the significance of June’s military action against Iranian nuclear facilities.
“I think the attack was very important on Iran [in June] because, let’s say that didn’t happen, they’d probably by now have a nuclear weapon, numerous nuclear weapons, and therefore even if we signed a deal, there’d be a big dark cloud over it, and it wouldn’t be the same thing,” Trump stated.
The president suggested that Iran’s nuclear capabilities would have cast a shadow over any peace negotiations had the strikes not occurred.
On June 22, US forces bombed several key nuclear sites across Iran following an exchange of airstrikes between Israel and Iran.
Trump claimed Iran has now shifted toward supporting peace efforts.
“They’ve informed us and they’ve acknowledged that they are totally in favour of this deal. They think it’s a great thing,” he said.
The president also expressed willingness to support Iran’s reconstruction efforts, though with strict conditions.
“We would like to see them be able to rebuild their country, too, but they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Trump added.
Trump has consistently maintained that the American strikes “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear programme, though the actual success of these operations remains subject to debate among defense analysts.
The ceasefire deal marks a significant development in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Trump positioning the Iran strikes as having removed what he described as a “big dark cloud” that would have otherwise complicated peace efforts in the region. See, More, Here>>>
