Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has shared his thoughts on Peter Obi’s recent promise to serve only one term of four years if elected president of Nigeria. During an interview with Arise Television, Lamido warned that such promises might sound exciting to the public but do not solve the real problems facing the country.
According to Lamido, leadership is not just about making sweet-sounding statements or short-term promises. He argued that if Peter Obi is not yet in office, it is impossible for him to know who he will work with or form a strong team that shares his ideas and vision. Lamido stressed that real progress comes from commitment, planning, and teamwork—not from trying to please people with flashy promises.
He also pointed out that Obi has not yet built the necessary political structure at the local and state levels, and as such, it’s too early to talk about major government plans or timelines.
“We should not be playing to the gallery, trying to excite what we’re saying, by saying I’ll do 5 or 6 years, then it means the whole thing is okay. That’s not the magic,” Lamido stated.
Instead, he said what truly matters is a leader’s dedication, philosophy, and ability to build lasting structures.
