Jake Epelle, founder of TAF Africa has stated that the recent Rivers State local government election was not a true reflection of the people’s choice. In the election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won only 3.

However, in an interview with Silverbird TV, Epelle claimed that the results were already predetermined even before the election took place. He said before the election, there were already widespread claims that former Governor Nyesom Wike wanted to take control of 20 local governments and leave only 3 for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Epelle said that the final results of the election matched exactly what had been predicted, making it clear that the process was not free or fair.

In Epelle’s words: “We saw the results even before the election when they were peddling this notion that Mr Wike wants 20 of the local governments and is willing to just give Fubara 3 of the local governments. So there was no election, they had already decided the results. It was more of sharing political power.
