U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen has spoken out about Iran and its actions in the Middle East. She shared her thoughts on Twitter, saying that the United States needs to stop Iran from getting money that it uses to cause problems in the region.
Rosen said, “As Iran & its proxies continue to attack Israel & destabilize the Middle East, we must cut off the Iranian regime’s funding sources.” When she talks about “proxies,” she means groups that Iran supports and uses to fight for its interests in other countries.
The senator is especially worried about the money Iran makes from selling oil. She thinks this money is being used to fund activities that cause trouble in the Middle East, particularly attacks against Israel.
To try to solve this problem, Rosen and some other senators from both political parties (Republicans and Democrats) wrote a letter to President Biden. They want the president to quickly put into action a law that Rosen helped create. This law is designed to stop Iran from making money by selling its oil.
Rosen believes that if Iran can’t sell its oil, it won’t have as much money to support groups that attack Israel or cause problems in other Middle Eastern countries. This idea of using money to control a country’s actions is called “financial sanctions.”
