Bright Amawhule, the president of GDI Worldwide, has spoken out about the political crisis in Rivers State. During a town hall meeting, he shared how his group, the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), played a key role in helping Siminalayi Fubara become the governor of Rivers State.
In a video shared by News Central TV from 0.47, Amawhule made it clear that it was not the Honourable Minister (referring to Nyesom Wike) who helped Sim Fubara gain support, but GDI. He said that before the election campaigns began, GDI took Sim Fubara from one local government (LG) area to another to introduce him to the people.
“Before the campaign proper, we moved Sim from one local government to another, not the Honourable Minister. GDI was the group that propelled Sim into being accepted by the people of Rivers State,” he said. According to him, GDI helped the people accept Sim even when others rejected him.
He also said that some people who didn’t support Sim before are now close to him, advising him not to listen to others and not to remain loyal to the political party that helped him win. Amawhule believes this has caused problems in the state.
He criticized the governor for no longer involving GDI or the party after taking office. Amawhule also mentioned that the APP (a political party) was not known in Rivers State before, but is now being supported by the governor to weaken his own party.
Amawhule warned that this should not continue in 2027. He ended by saying that anyone who becomes governor in the future should not just appoint friends to the House of Assembly in order to misuse state funds without proper approval.
