NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima has praised Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a rare politician who truly reaches out to the people, while condemning the way many Nigerians allow themselves to be swayed by small gifts during elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television from 21.11, Galadima described Kwankwaso as “the only politician standing today.” He noted that Kwankwaso has invested in education and skill development for ordinary citizens.
He recalled how Kwankwaso recently sponsored the graduation of 100 young Nigerians in hospitality management. According to him, this was done because Kwankwaso believed that many people in Northern Nigeria lacked opportunities in that field.
Galadima also mentioned Kwankwaso’s involvement in a university in Karu, where four students from each state of the federation were admitted through a competitive exam, completely free of charge. “Even if it is his own son, without passing the exam, he cannot be admitted,” Galadima said, stressing Kwankwaso’s fairness.
However, Galadima lamented that despite these efforts, many Nigerians still prefer short-term gains from politicians. “They follow what they’ll eat just now, Spaghetti, 200 naira,” he said. He went on to allege that vote-buying remains a major problem in elections. “We learnt in Kaduna that votes were bought for 25,000 each in the recent bye-elections,” he added.
Galadima argued that until citizens value genuine development over temporary handouts, Nigeria’s democracy will continue to suffer.
