According to the report from CNN TV On September 11, 2025, A conservative political influencer and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a student-sponsored event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah.

Kirk, 31, was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body was moved to the State Office of the Medical Examiner on Wednesday night, with authorities working to facilitate its return to his family.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason provided an update on the ongoing investigation during a press conference on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

He revealed that law enforcement had made significant progress in tracking the shooter’s movements. “Starting at 11:52 a.m., this subject arrived on campus shortly away from campus, We have tracked his movements onto the campus through the stairwells, up to the roof, across the roof, to a shooting location. After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the other side of the building, jumped off of the building and fled, off of the campus and into a neighborhood.”

Investigators have recovered good video footage of the suspect, described as a college-aged individual who blended in with the campus environment.

However, Mason noted that authorities are not releasing the footage at this time, as they are “working through some technologies and some ways to identify this individual. If we are unsuccessful, we will reach out to you as the media, and we will push that publicly to help us identify them.”

The investigation involves a collaborative effort among multiple agencies, including the State Bureau of Investigations, local city and county law enforcement, UVU police, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). “I’d like to thank all the investigators that are involved in this, They have worked around the clock all day yesterday through the night last night.”

During the initial stages of the investigation, two individuals were detained as persons of interest but were later cleared and released. Mason addressed the harassment faced by these individuals, stating, “We interviewed those individuals, and after releasing them and after clearing them of being suspects, they faced scrutiny. They faced threats. We ask that you do not impose into those people and that investigative process. They don’t deserve that harassment for being subject to that.”

Mason expressed deep sympathy for Kirk’s family, noting that he had spoken with Kirk’s wife, Erika, on Wednesday night. “The family’s devastated, As the Commissioner of Public Safety, as a father, as a husband, I can only imagine what that family’s going through. The heinous event that happened yesterday is not Utah. This is not what we’re known for.”

Mason highlighted Utah’s reputation for community, character, and service, referencing recent statewide efforts to support families in mourning. “We will not stand for what happened yesterday, We are exhausting every lead we have, every officer invested in this, every investigator, every local agency.
