In an X post, Nigerian political activist Aisha Yesufu expressed concerns following the military’s announcement to release 381 rehabilitated ex-terrorists in March 2025. At a stakeholders’ meeting, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa revealed that 789 ex-combatants are currently in rehabilitation, with 381 set to graduate next year.

Yesufu criticised this approach, stating it allows Boko Haram to thrive, as some former militants infiltrate the military, gather intelligence, and return to terrorism. She questioned why these individuals are not prosecuted and who is shielding them from facing justice. Her remarks highlight ongoing challenges in effectively addressing the issue of terrorism and the reintegration of former combatants in Nigeria.

According to what Aisha Yesufu tweeted, “This is one of the ways Boko Haram is thriving. We have seen many repent, get into the military, get information and return back to terrorists. Why are these terrorists not prosecuted? Who is protecting terrorists and preventing prosecution?
