According to a report by Al Jazeera, hundreds of demonstrators filled the streets of Tel Aviv on Saturday night, demanding that the Israeli government finalize an agreement to end the ongoing war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. The protesters called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to commit to a deal that would bring an end to months of bloodshed and suffering on both sides.

Many in the crowd voiced growing frustration with Netanyahu’s leadership, accusing him of placing his personal political survival above national interests. Several demonstrators expressed concern that the prime minister could again derail the latest peace efforts, as they believe he has done in the past.

“We are anxious for the kidnapped to be released. We are anxious to stop the war … we have no trust at all in Netanyahu. But right now we have all the trust in the world in Trump,” said Gil Shelly, a protester from Tel Aviv. His words reflected the sentiment of many who see U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent diplomatic involvement as a potential turning point in the conflict.

“It’s the first time in months that I’m actually hopeful,” Shelly added. “Hopefully he [Trump] understands now that Netanyahu, all he wants to do is to continue having this war so he can stay out of prison and he can stay at his job as a prime minister.”

Protesters carried banners calling for peace and the safe return of the captives, chanting slogans demanding that the government “seal the deal” and “bring them home now.”

The gathering underscored a growing divide within Israel, as citizens weary of war increasingly question their government’s motives and leadership, while clinging to renewed hopes for an end to the conflict. See, More, Here>>>
