According to a video uploaded by Channels Television on YouTube, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has called for renewed unity among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups, emphasizing the importance of political engagement and national cohesion.
Speaking at a forum in Lagos, Uzodinma highlighted the significant presence of the Igbo community across major Nigerian cities and outlined plans to engage with these populations to promote the vision of a united Nigeria.
Uzodinma began his address by urging Nigerians to align with the country’s prevailing political realities, stressing that unity and a common purpose are essential for harnessing the dividends of democracy.
“The whole idea is to bring our people together, to unite our people, to create better political awareness so that our people can live in line with the dictates of current realities in the country,” he stated.
He pointed out the widespread distribution of the Igbo people, remarking, “We have Igbo population huge in Lagos, in Kano, in Sokoto, in Maiduguri—name it”.
Uzodinma further explained the intention behind his outreach, saying, “And we will do our best to visit these cities where we have a large chunk of Igbo settlements to speak to the issue of a united Nigeria, of a progressive Nigeria, of the need to work with our people according to the rule of law and according to the dictates of all the regulations, and the statutes governing our nation”.
The governor underscored the necessity for peaceful coexistence and active participation in the affairs of host states, particularly Lagos.
He encouraged the Igbo community and other ethnic groups to contribute positively to their environments, emphasizing that such efforts would foster mutual respect and national progress.
During the forum, issues affecting the Igbo community in Lagos were discussed, with Uzodinma promising to relay their concerns to the Lagos State Governor.
This move, he said, is part of a broader effort to ensure that all Nigerians, regardless of their state of origin, feel included and have their voices heard in the national discourse.
