According to Jerusalem Post, In a significant escalation of their maritime campaign, a spokesperson for Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced that the group will now target major US oil exporters in the nearby seas, directly threatening global energy shipments passing through the critical waterways of the Middle East.

The Iran-aligned group, which has been attacking international shipping in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, stated that British and American ships have already been designated as legitimate targets.

The new declaration expands this threat to include companies and vessels involved in exporting US oil.

In a televised address, Houthi spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree issued the stark warning.

“We have enough capacity to prevent the passage of American and British ships, and we have the capacity to target major American oil exporters in the nearby seas, Saree stated.

The nearby seas are understood to include the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most crucial chokepoints for oil and natural gas shipments.

The Houthis have used drones and missiles to harass and damage commercial vessels in these areas for months, disrupting global trade and forcing many shippers to take the longer, more expensive route around Africa.

In response, the United States and United Kingdom have launched multiple rounds of airstrikes on Houthi military targets inside Yemen.

A Pentagon spokesman reiterated that the US military will continue to act to protect freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce.

The explicit threat to target US oil exporters marks a dangerous new phase in the conflict, raising the stakes for global energy markets and increasing the risk of a broader regional confrontation.
